  • organisational
  • recognise different roles of people and how they communicate throughout different stages of the project
  • produce a report stating the need, and how an information system will meet it
  • diagrammatically represent the information system in context
  • document the relationship between the new system, user of the information system and their need(s)
  • analyse and customise user interfaces and other tasks in applications software forming part of the solution
  • identify the training needs of users of the information system
  • document the procedures to be followed by participants

Different Roles of People in the team

Please see 8.1.3.1 The structured approach to software on the SDD wiki and scroll down to see information on analysts, designers, programmers and users.

For any large scale system development, and some small scale system developments, teams are used in order to complete the tasks.
Having a team work on a singly system has both Advantages (Less work required on an individual creates higher quality work, or even a larger final combined product) and disadvantages (People working separately on their set task, this creates a requirement for the team to communicated effectively, and so increases the risk of a great group error.).

Whatever the project if a team is used, it needs to be used properly, communication is vital (see below), also it is vital that each team member is used properly for the right purpose, for example it would make no sense to choose a team member who specialises as a systems analyst and assign him as a software tester.
The point being made is that, each member of a team has his/her own personal speciality and it is up to the team manager to use his/her ability in the best possible ways to create the most efficiancy within the team.

Management in a team needs to be properly run, in order for a team to run effectively, without a single person of group to act as management, the team will drift apart and cannot possible run effectively.

Communication
"It is vital that all parties in the systems development communicate with each other effectively" - IPT Samuel Davis pg 409
Whatever the project and however large the team, communication is a must, without proper communication the final result of a project could end up not working because the individual sections don't combine properly.

Along with on the job communication though phone calls, emails, etc, Reports are also a good way for team members to communicate and compare notes, if each member of the team creates a report on their part of the project, then by sending that report to a central manager, or even around to the members of the team, the project can then be properly managed by its manager and by its members in order to ensure that the project is being properly built.

An example of bad management leading to a badly completed project,
shows the importance of Proper communication and management
